Combind is a game about a button. It is not a data business. This page is short because there is very little to tell you.
Combind is run by Thomas Hughes, a sole trader in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for everything described below. You can reach him at hello@combind.app.
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. There is nothing to consent to here.
What we don't collect
No name. No email address. No phone number. No address book. No photos. No location. No microphone — the app never records anything. No advertising identifier, and no tracking of you across other companies' apps or websites. There is no account and nothing to sign up for.
What we do store
- An anonymous ID your phone generates. It isn't linked to you — it's a random string, not your device's identifier.
- Your game state: points, level, streak, multiplier, and how many times you've been combind. Numbers.
- A nickname, only if you type one in. Please don't use your real name.
When the app crashes
If the app crashes we're sent a report so we can fix it, using Sentry. It contains what went wrong, your device model, your operating system version and the app version. It is deliberately configured not to attach your IP address. It carries your anonymous ID and nothing that identifies you.
How the app gets used
So we can tell which parts of the game work and which are broken, we record what happens in the app — opening it, pressing the button, paying, and which step of the leaving process you reached. We use PostHog, in their European region.
These records carry your anonymous ID and nothing else about you. No name, no email, no location, no advertising identifier, and no recording of your screen. We use it to count and to fix things, never to identify you or to follow you into other companies' apps.
Reminders
If you allow it, the app can remind you that you are about to drop off the leaderboard. Your phone schedules that reminder itself. Nothing is sent to us, and no notification data leaves your device. You can turn it off in your phone's settings at any time.
Payments
Apple takes the payment. We never see your card — we're only told whether it worked. We use RevenueCat to check that a purchase was genuine; they receive the receipt Apple issues and your anonymous ID.
Who else sees it
Your nickname and your score appear on the public scoreboard. That's the game.
Everything else is held in Europe:
- Google Firebase holds your game record, in Google's European region. Your anonymous sign-in is handled by Google's global infrastructure.
- PostHog holds the usage records, in their European region.
- Sentry holds crash reports, in their European region.
- RevenueCat checks your purchase receipt.
- Expo delivers app updates. Like any download, that reveals your IP address to them; they do not receive your anonymous ID or anything about your game.
- Apple takes the payment.
Each of those is working on our behalf so the app can run. We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the companies named on this page.
Why we're allowed to hold it
Under UK and EU data protection law we rely on legitimate interests: without an anonymous ID and a score there is no game to play. There is no profiling and no automated decision-making about you.
How long we keep it
Your game record is kept while you're playing and for 24 months after the app last contacts us, after which it is deleted. Crash reports are kept for 90 days.
Your rights, and deleting it
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us holding it. You can also ask us to stop recording how you use the app while carrying on playing, and we will. Email hello@combind.app and include your nickname or your anonymous ID — without one of those we genuinely cannot find you, because we hold nothing else that points to you.
Deleting the app stops all collection immediately. Note that your anonymous ID is stored in your phone's keychain and survives reinstalling, so reinstalling puts you back on the same record — email us if you want it gone for good.
If you're in the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU, to your national data protection authority.
Children
Combind isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has been using it, email us and we'll delete the record.
